How does someone descend up to 150 metres underground five times a week? What is life and work like down there? Why would someone choose this career? What qualifications are required? What role did mining play in the past, and what role does it play now and in the future for the town and the region? What traditions are upheld? And why, in 2026, did a young, slender woman choose the \u2018Mining\u2019 vocational course at the secondary school within the Velenje School Centre?
\nPart 1, 8.9.2026: \u2018Above ground\u2019 research visit to the Velenje Mining Museum, with the director, Tadeja Jegri\u0161nik, the miners Ale\u0161 Zupan and Luka Ograjen\u0161ek, and the trainee Ines Zabret Florjani\u010di\u010d. As part of the \u2018Youth Writes\u2019 project with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/a>\/FAZ and student journalists Ju\u0161 Razbor\u0161ek, Jure Ro\u017ei\u010d, Filip Obrul and O\u017ebe Zemlji\u010d, SC Velenje.
